Consultant
Pertti Nousiainen
Pertti Nousiainen has over 10 years of experience in chemical industries and innovations for start-up companies. His expertise is also based on 20 years of internationally recognized academic teaching, writing, and research on industrial polymer chemistry and chemical processes. He specializes in bio-based cellulose solutions for regenerated products.
Nousiainen is an expert in the structure-function relationships of cellulose, chitosan, and synthetic polymer applications. His experience includes various chemical, enzymatic, and plasma modification methods for fibers used in air and water filtration, as well as medical applications. He has developed tissue engineering scaffolds made from biodegradable, biocompatible polymer fibers and nanofibers (PLA, PLGA, and silica).
Textile Fiber Expertise
As a researcher, consultant, editor, and teacher, Nousiainen has extensive experience in textile fiber structure and chemical modification. His knowledge encompasses fiber and textile chemical and physical structures, behavior, properties, and applications across various products (technical textiles, nonwovens, medical textiles). He also provides specialized advice on cellulose and chitosan processing.
Primary Research Focus
Nousiainen’s primary research area is cellulose polymer and fiber structure and chemistry. His focus is on modifying various degrees of pulp starch, with an emphasis on polysaccharides such as cellulose, hemicellulose, chitin, and chitosan.
